Far-right chief Marine Le Pen says she opposes sending heavy tanks to Ukraine, fearing it may escalate the continuing battle with Russia.

The controversy on whether or not to ship Ukraine heavy weapons, together with fashionable tanks, which is at the moment shaking German politics has now crept into France, with outstanding politicians making their stances clear.

France and the West mustn’t ship heavy tanks to Ukraine,  Le Pen mentioned after President Emmanuel Macron mentioned he didn’t rule out sending heavy tanks to Ukraine on Sunday.

“Received’t all this make the struggle worse?” she requested in an interview with BFMTV on Monday.

Escalation dangers “internationalising the battle” and “transferring away from a negotiated peace answer”, she added, reflecting a sentiment Macron and the entire political class all share.

To look into the matter of sending heavy tanks to Ukraine, Military Minister Sébastien Lecornu has been instructed to “work” on the opportunity of delivering Leclerc tanks to Kyiv.

Heavy weapons supply must also be coordinated with “our important allies” with out “weakening our personal defence capabilities”, the president added.
